Recently I was asked about some hotel recommendations in the Aletsch Arena. It does make sense to stay several days in the Aletsch Arena as the region is spectacular and is a great place to relax in summer and also in winter. There are many great places to stay but I would like to recommend 3 of them that I know very well.
I have been staying quite often at the Riederalp because of the beautiful ancient Aletsch Forest nearby. It is a great place for hiking. A few years ago I came with my Asian friends to the Berghaus Toni to have a Glühwein near the cosy chimney. Since then I have stayed several times in the hotel. It is a nice place and reasonably priced. The hotel bar is great and the views are spectacular. It is ideally located to do day trips. James and Brit, the owners, are very friendly and very international. He is English and she is Belgian. You find a great selection of Belgium specialities at the bar ;-)
A few years ago I was looking for a hotel accommodation at Bettmeralp. I found a good place in the centre of the village which is nice and quiet and with great mountain views. It is a very nice Chalet Hotel with beautiful decorated rooms. One can see that the management has put a lot of effort and love into details. Karin and Reto are the very friendly and helpful hosts. It is a family run hotel and one can feel it. By the way, Karin is a great photographer and it can be seen on their website and in the hotel.
When I started taking photos in the Aletsch Arena, I spend several sleepless nights at Mount Eggishorn. The fantastic Horli Hitta at Mount Eggishorn belongs to the Hotel Alpina at Fiescheralp. After several years of photographing the region a nice friendship has developed with the hotel owners Marco and Ingrid. They manage the hotel with lots of enthusiasm. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. The hotel is very centrally located next to Fiescheralp station (perfect for trips to Mount Eggishorn). The views from the balconies to watch the beautiful sunrise is breathtaking. The hotel is very well decorated and has a whirlpool.
