Markus Eichenberger
Markus is an award-winning Swiss photographer and filmmaker with a great passion for traveling and exploring new cultures. Since 1997, he has visited over 80 countries and lived abroad for more than ten years. His professional career began in the financial sector, where he spent seven years in Asia for Thomson Reuters – including three years in Beijing and one year each in Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, and Singapore.
In 2004, Markus discovered his passion for photography in Beijing and bought his first digital camera. He quickly developed a passion for street and architectural photography. During his time in China, he was commissioned by GettyImages to document all 31 Olympic stadiums for the 2008 Olympic Games. His images were distributed worldwide through GettyImages and published in renowned publications such as Sports Illustrated.
Since 2011, Markus has devoted himself intensively to star photography. He spends several months each year in the Swiss Alps to capture the mountains' special atmosphere in photos and time-lapse videos. His short films "Mystic Jungfraujoch" and "Chasing Stars" have been screened at over 50 international film festivals and have received multiple awards for their outstanding camera work. His work has appeared in publications such as Schweizer Illustrierte. In 2016, he presented his work as a keynote speaker to 500 guests at the DigitalEvent.
With the founding of the Chasing Stars Workshops in 2016, Markus has shared his fascination with astrophotography and has so far inspired over 1,500 participants to take part in star photography. In 2021, the TV magazine Deutsche Welle Euromaxx accompanied one of his workshops on the Schilthorn. In April 2025, he was invited to the radio program SRF1 Persönlich, where he talked about his life. The podcast of the program is available on the SRF website and can be listened to at any time.
Markus also leads photo tours to Spain (Andalusia & Barcelona) and Northern Norway (sailing trips around the Lofoten Islands and Tromsø). His focus is on documentary, landscape, and wildlife photography, as well as film production. Markus is fluent in German, English, and Spanish.
